I think it was back in June, maybe July. Well, I was in a 48 hour theatre festival at The Idiom. I've participated in similar fests back in Eau Claire, and they've always been a blast. This one was no exception. For those of you who aren't familiar with the idea of a 48 hour (or often times a 24 hour) theatre festival, this is how it works: A bunch of people sign up, some of them will write, some will direct, and others will act. On, say, a Friday night at 8pm, the writers are assigned a "theme" and a few actors. Each writer then has 12 hours to write his/her play. At 8am on Saturday morning, the writers hand their plays over to the directors. The directors and actors then have 12 hours to rehearse and put a performance together. The plays are then performed for the public at 8pm on Saturday. Basically, an idea goes from pen to stage in 24 hours. In a 48 hour fest, like this one was, the process happens twice. In this case, the fest kicked off at 8pm on a Thursday and finished off on Saturday night. I only participated in the second half of the fest, since I had to work on Friday.
After the kick-off on Thursday (assigning of the theme and teams), a handful of us went to get some eats and some "Big Mama" margaritas.
The show I was in was written by my friend Ben and was directed by Jazz (above). Ben wrote this fun film noir show, and I got to play a femme fatale character. It was pretty awesome!
Okay... I'm going to upload some more pics now and see if I can't catch y'all up on some more of the fun we've been having this summer.
