Kindred Spirits

When Lara and I were in the beginning of our third year of college, a theatre professor of ours referred to us as kindred spirits. And, well, this woman didn't get her doctorate for nothing; she wasn't stupid. Over the course of the two years that followed, Lara and I became dear, dear friends. We lived together, road-tripped to Chicago (twice), and sparked each other's creativity, spontaneity, and, sometimes, stupidity. Some, or maybe most, of my memories from college involve Lara. Lara graduated a year before I did, though, and distance... or time... or life led us to drift apart. Within the past year, we made an effort to change that. Now, I'm happy to say that I'll have a whole new library of memories with Lara over the years to come. Using the word "happy" makes that an understatement, though. Overjoyed, maybe. Delighted. Fucking thrilled. Yeah, that's good.

Lara came to visit about a month ago. We had two days to spend together, and I can say with confidence that we certainly made the most of those two days. It wouldn't have mattered where we'd went, because Lara and I could have had fun sitting in a cardboard box, but we went to some pretty kick ass places anyway - a couple of waterfalls, the boardwalk, Teddy Bear Cove, and Mount Baker. And, you know, I've been to all of those places before, but I haven't laughed so hard at any of them as I did this time.

When we thought our visit had come to an end, we received a pleasant surprise when we learned that Lara's train to Seattle was running an hour late. It was an easy decision, then, to walk over to the nearest ale house. That's where those last two photos were taken. In her online album, Lara titled that last pic "Reunited and it Feels so Good." I couldn't agree more.

Thanks for visiting, LG. I love you.

Oh, and, readers - Note that the collection of photos in this post ignore a pretty entertaining portion of Lara's visit. We had our very own "brewery tour" that will require its own post. Check back soon.
