The House We Live In:

This is "the boathouse:" A little 1 bedroom house painted purple by our landlady; with an Indian woodcarving in the front yard and portholes in the front and back doors. Apparently 30 years ago, a sailor named Henry owned the house. Local legend has it that Henry was a notorious drunk. Henry kept a crab-shack in the backyard, where he'd grill up the the crustaceans and swill the grog. The neighbors--more often than not--could find Henry stumbling around the 'hood offering grilled crab to anyone he'd run into on the street.

Our landlady mentioned to us that the house used to be the Captain's Quarters of a barge. Literally, she said, we were renting a boathouse. Even better, most of the neighbors we've met in Fairhaven have had friends who used to live here. I guess our home has a reputation.

  1. Your new digs make a nautically-themed lower level of a WI duplex seem trite and silly.

You had better be doing some serious writing here. I can see inspiration in those walls all the way from Milwaukee.
