As a child, summer was the only season for me. Still, it's my favorite. But, I have since gained an appreciation for them all. Given, here in The Northwest, we don't have the dramatic changes we once did living in Wisconsin, but living in a place where there was no change at all might be difficult for me. I enjoy the anticipation of change. I like having something to look forward to. At the same time, just the other day, Mike made a very keen observation about me. He told me that I tend to hold onto things. He's right; as much as I look forward to change, I also hang onto the past and always have a heck of a hard time with goodbyes. This year, we spent the last Saturday in September saying goodbye to summer, and we woke up Sunday to embrace fall. Is that what it means to "have my cake and eat it too"...
In due fashion, we spent our last day of summer at Locust Beach. We've posted about this beach before, the one that could host a football game at low tide and then some (possibly, actually, a brilliant idea...hmmm...). As you well know, it's one of our favorite spots here in B'ham, and you can see why...
To welcome fall, a walk in the woods seemed appropriate. That's where leaves fall after all. We headed across the street to Whatcom Falls Park (Falls again...duh), another of our favorite places, and also, conveniently, our front yard. We picked blackberries, let the girls swim in the stream, and visited both the duck pond and the salmon hatchery.
My tendency to hold on isn't such a bad thing when coupled with my excitement for moving forward. It made for a fun weekend anyway. And... as much as I didn't want to say goodbye to all y'all who came out for our wedding, I look forward to the years ahead when you wise up and decide to move here. ... Right?
