On our way down to see the Beluga exhibit from below, we ran into this mystical looking fellow, a narwhal. None of these rare beasts reside at he aquarium, but I guess they wanted to honor them in some way, nonetheless. They are the love-children of whales and unicorns. Run that one by Lisa Frank.
And, the beluga whale exhibit from above:
Inside, we saw some large, and probably extremely poisonous, jellyfish:
The dolphin show was certainly a highlight. The dolphins at the aquarium are all rescued animals who had been tangled and injured in fishing nets. Without help, they would have died. Unfortunately for the dolphins, because of the injuries they ensued to their fins, they wouldn't survive if they were released back into their natural habitat. So, for all y'all who think aquariums and zoos are cruel, pay attention to the animals' stories. You'll find that most, if not all of them, are rescued animals, or babies of rescued animals.
Here's a video clip of the show:
The aquarium is located in the middle of a gigantic city park called Stanley Park. You could spend a whole day enjoying the park alone. We saw what we could in the time we had...

With Vancouver being so close (about 50 miles), it's silly that we haven't spent more time there. We have ideas to start though. If any of y'all want to come visit and take a trip to visit our neighbors to the north, we'd be happy to go. It's a much more "international" city than anywhere either Mike or I have been in the states. 50 miles aint a bad distance to drive for a dose of diversity.
Speaking of culture, we tried our best to get a little Euro-culture in by meeting up with a few friends at an Irish pub upon our return to B'ham that evening. Some Irish whiskey and a few rounds of cricket.
All in all, I think twenty-seven started off just fine for Mike. Just fine.
