Lake Padden and Fragrance Lake

We've put in a good number of miles in the past couple of weeks discovering new trails. Last weekend we went to check out Lake Whatcom and Lake Padden, two raved about lakes in B'ham. We didn't spend too long at Lake Whatcom, but we did find the 2.5 mile walking trail around Lake Padden to be very pleasant. The girls had a great time swimming and sniffing around to boot. Dad, you and Flash would have been two very happy campers.

Later in the week, we decided to head over to Larrabee State Park, also in B'ham. There's a trail there we've been told several times about, and the suspense was killing us. Sure enough, it was beautiful. The five mile round-trip trail leads its hikers up the side of the Chuckanut Mountain where they can appreciate loads of beautiful ferns and other forest treasures on the way. A good chunk of the way up, we took a short break to enjoy a stunning view of the bay.

Fragrance Lake

The trail leads up to Fragrance Lake. We haven't yet researched how the lake got its name, as it didn't have any distinct odor we could catch whiff of. It sure is pretty though. If you do make it out here, Haapalaa, I think you'll be in heaven. This place struck us as a fisherman's dream.
